The seperation of the different elements of music with a comprehensive curriculum provides a better music education. To enrich the experience, students may select from a variety of classes, each of which will broaden and enhance their understanding of music.

  • Theory: Theory provides the foundation for the study of all styles of music - Classical, Popular Music, and Jazz. Music grades 1-8. Ear training and Computer Lab complement this class and are recommended.

  • Ear Training: Sight reading and sight singing are important musical critical thinking skills. Theory and Computer Lab complement this class and are recommended.

  • Diction: International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) helps in correct sound formation, creating correct resonance, and is the key to mastery of classical language repertoire as well as dialects of Broadway Theatre. Singers will incorporate breathing techniques and posture with proper pronunciation, projection, and resonance. Yoga, Foreign Languages and Computer Lab complement this class and are recommended.

  • Computer Lab: Our computer lab is equipped with the most effective music and language software programs designed to enhance problem solving skills, learn and practice theory, composition, improve sight-reading, ear training, and language skills.

  • Music History: Learn about composers, evolution of music and the influence of politics, religion, and war on music. Interactive historical learning using Jeopardy type games, multi-media, and field trips to Museums. Foreign Languages and Computer Lab complement this class and are recommended.

  • Yoga: Yoga is essential to vocalists for relieving of stress, mastery of breath control, power and resonance as well as preventive medium for a plethora of vocal problems including asthma, sinusitis, hoarseness, dryness, and nodes. Yoga is essential for spinal strength and flexibility for keyboardists, for prevention of injury in string and keyboard players, for clarity, calmness of mind and concentration. A calm mind and a flexible body is a must for every budding or accomplished musician. Mastery of body and breath leads to mastery of craft.

  • Foreign Languages: Classical vocal repertoire is usually written in German, French, or Italian. Classically trained musicians often do not study foreign languages until they reach college. Language studies is essential for mastery and understanding of musical inflection and poetry. Pianists and accompanists need to understand languages for interpretative purposes and to synchronize breathing and phrasing correctly with vocalists.Computer Lab complements this class and is recommended.
